Entry to the Sixth Form
Our Open Evening for applicants wishing to join Herts & Essex Sixth Form from September 2018 took place on Thursday 2 November 2017. We were delighted to welcome so many prospective applicants and their parents or carers. If you are interested in applying to our Sixth Form but were unable to attend the Open Evening, please contact Mrs Brady, Sixth Form Administrator.
Applications should be submitted electronically by following this link: http://www.hertsandessex.herts.sch.uk/apply/
Personal statements and other documentation are not required as part of the application, in accordance with government guidelines, and there is no further form to be completed at County level.
Please note: Sixth Form Applications - 18/19 November
Over the weekend there was an unusual problem with the link to the Sixth Form application form as the school's website host had a power cut sometime after midday on Saturday 18 November.
It appears we have received details of some applications made, even though email confirmations were not sent, but some applications did not go through at all. If you applied over the weekend of 18/19 November and have not received an email in acknowledgement, we would ask you or your daughter to apply again and apologise for how frustrating this must be.
If you have any questions or want to check whether we have received your application, do feel free to contact the Sixth Form Administrator, Mrs Brady, by email or telephone: email@example.com or 01279 654127

Joining Herts & Essex Sixth Form
The Herts & Essex Sixth Form curriculum is an exciting blend of elements which combine to provide an excellent preparation for students to enter university, to follow an alternative career path, and for life beyond school. We offer academic A Level subjects with rigour and depth, whilst the additional subject chosen from the Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives and Research course, or the Extended Project Qualification, allow students the breadth of study that stimulates intellectual curiosity. Our A Levels are taught by subject experts who deliver outstanding, dynamic and stimulating lessons.
In choosing Sixth Form subjects, students should not only consider what they enjoy and what they are good at, but also the right combination of subjects for their chosen degree or career. Students should also take into account their predicted grades, and whether they are sufficient to take the study of those specific subjects further.
The broad range of subjects on offer is designed to give a personalised programme of study, delivering excellent standards of learning and teaching, enabling greater support and ultimately successful outcomes. Unlike many schools, we do not start with a pre-determined list of options, but design our timetable afresh each year in order to accommodate the wishes of students. Although no guarantee can be given that every choice of subjects will be accessible, we are usually able to provide most students with their first preferences.
To study in the Sixth Form at Herts & Essex, a minimum Attainment 8 score of 56, with a minimum of grade 5 in both English and Maths, is required. (See our full admission arrangements below). In addition, each subject has its own specific entry criteria, the details of which can be found in the Sixth Form Subject Guide (below).
Students are expected to study three subjects plus EPQ or GPR or Core Maths, although those with a minimum of seven 7-9 or A*/A grades have the option to study four A Levels.
The total number for the Sixth Form is 350 i.e. in Years 12 and 13 combined. The admission number for any given Year 12 is therefore 350 less the number currently in Year 13. A minimum of 70 places in Year 12 will be offered conditionally to external applicants.
