Excellence for All
At Herts & Essex, we place considerable emphasis on our students acquiring a rounded education from the beginning. Students embrace our school values; building resilience and creativity, learning to respect and show compassion for others, understanding how to use their initiative and build independence. We achieve the highest academic standards and develop the potential of all our students be successful.
A Broad Curriculum
The curriculum is broad throughout the school but particularly at KS3 when consideration given to the need for a balanced approach to education. We believe that all students should be given the chance to explore a variety of subjects before refining their educational pathway later in the school. In Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages students are placed early according to their ability, but sets are reviewed regularly and the need for mobility is recognised as students progress through the school.
Supporting the Talented
Recognising gifted and talented students is an important part of our role as a school, but it is important to distinguish between the talent pools generated in the differing environments of secondary and primary schools. Our role is to identify talent early and to nurture its development. Apart from teaching staff, parents, students, previous schools and outside agencies (eg dance companies) are involved in this process. As gifted students flourishes in school, our curriculum and teaching will be tailored to meet their needs. This ensures that the right opportunities are put in place for them to achieve their potential in their chosen area of expertise. More information on our gifted and talented provision can be found on the Challenge for All page in Beyond the Classroom.
